What’s changing
From November 2026, the SWIFT network will no longer accept unstructured postal addresses in international and RTGS/high-value payment messages. Only fully structured or hybrid postal addresses will be allowed, requiring Town/City and Country address details to be present as structured elements.

Who is impacted
Customers submitting international payment instruction files via ANZ Fileactive must ensure all beneficiary and related party addresses meet the hybrid or fully structured requirements; Payments containing unstructured addresses may be delayed or rejected by ANZ, correspondent banks and market infrastructures. Hybrid addresses may also be required in some domestic RTGS payment instructions where address details are provided as noted in the table above.
What you need to do
- Review and update your Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) / beneficiary records to include complete address details, including Town/City and Country.
- Ensure your ERP can generate payment files using a structured or hybrid address format. Your ERP needs to generate files with payment beneficiaries containing a structured address or hybrid address format with a minimum of Town/City and Country included. We will notify you once files can be sent.
- File format specific requirements:
- MT101: Use Option F in field 59F to provide structured Town/City and Country
- pain.001: Populate <PstlAdr> with <TwnNm> and <Ctry>. Where possible, use fully structured fields <StrtNm>, <BldgNb>, <PstCd> where available. Avoid using only <AdrLine>
- Fixed-Length and Pipe Delimited file formats: Populate Beneficiary Country and Beneficiary City field
Use ANZ’s File Format Guides to confirm the correct field mapping and constraints. You may need to engage your ERP provider to enable structured address fields to be included in payment file outputs. ANZ Fileactive will be ready to receive the new file format in July 2026.
Timeline
- April to June 2026 - Prepare ERP master data
- July 2026 - You can commence sending hybrid address files in production
- November 2026 - Unstructured addresses will no longer be accepted. Payments not following hybrid or structured address format will risk rejection.
