New Zealand Direct Debits are instructions that withdraw funds from New Zealand domiciled NZD accounts that belong to approved payers, and deposit the funds into a New Zealand domiciled NZD account registered in ANZ Transactive - Global. Direct Debits are submitted in batches. A batch can contain one to 100,000 payment instructions to a maximum value of $99,999,999,999.99. Refer to cut-off times for payment processing and cut-off times.
Methods of creating NZ Domestic Payments:
- Upload a NZ CSV file
- Use a direct debit template
- Use a past direct debit
- Use the Create Direct Debit screen - see below:
To create a direct debit from the Create Direct Debit screen, click Create Direct Debit and complete the sections below.
Direct Debit Information
- If you are entitled to more than one Division, select the Division under which the direct debit will be made

- Select the account the funds are being credited To
Direct Debit Details
- Leave the Value Date as is unless you want to choose a future date. To select a future date, up to 120 calendar days, click on Later and choose a future date from the calendar:
- If you need to set a specific Release Time for when the direct debit will be processed on the Value Date, select the Hour and Minute (in increments of 10 minutes)
- Enter a Direct Debit Name up to 16 characters that will appear on direct debit reports
- Select an Authorisation Code from the drop-down list
- Enter Particulars up to 12 characters that will appear as part of the narrative on the credit account statement
- Enter a Code up to 12 characters that will appear as part of the narrative on the credit account statement
- Enter a Reference up to 12 characters that will appear as part of the narrative on the credit account statement
- Select a Trace Account for direct debits that cannot be processed
- Tick Individual Credits if you need one statement entry for each transaction processed
Payer Details
To reduce the risk of fraud, ANZ recommends you always confirm payer details when processing a direct entry.

- Click Add to add a direct debit instruction to the list
- Add Payer
Add Payer from your Payer ListClick in the Payer Name field and select a payer from the drop-down list. You can also use the Search Payers feature to find a payer in your Payer List.Add New Payer- Click in the Payer Name field and click Add New Payer
If Add New Payer isn't visible, you do not have entitlements to create payers.
- Enter the Payer Name
- Enter the Payer Account Number; bank (two digits), branch (four digits), the body (seven digits) and the suffix (two or three digits)
- Click Add this payer to Address Book if you will be paying this payer again
- Click Proceed
- Click in the Payer Name field and click Add New Payer
- Enter Particulars up to 12 characters that will appear as part of the narrative on the payer's statement
- Enter a Code up to 12 characters that will appear as part of the narrative on the credit account and payer's statement
- Enter a Reference up to 12 characters that will appear as part of the narrative on the payer's statement
- Enter the Amount to collect from the payer
- If required, click Payer Direct Debit Details to view additional payer details:
Remitter NameThe credit account short name is displayed in Remitter Name and can be changed for this payer if necessary. The Remitter Name can be up to 16 characters and will appear as part of the narrative on the payer's statement.
- Repeat above steps to add each payer to the direct debit
Review and Submit
- After you have completed all the direct debit information, click Review & Submit at the bottom of the screen:
Error?
- Click the drop-down in the Error pop-up to display the error:
- Review the highlighted fields on screen and update as required. If a payer has an error, there will be a warning message in the direct debit instruction: Click Payer Direct Debit Details to view the error in the Payer Details pop-up window:
- Review the direct debit details and click Submit to submit the direct debit for approval:
If the direct debit details are not correct, click Previous to return to the previous screen and edit the direct debit as required.
- In the confirmation pop-up window, choose your next course of action:
- Click Save Direct Debit as Template to create a template from the direct debit
- Click View this Direct Debit to go to the Direct Debit Details screen
- Click Ok to close the confirmation pop-up window
