About International Payments

What is an International Payment?

International payments, also known as cross-border payments or telegraphic transfers, is a payment from a single funding account to one or more nominated beneficiary accounts worldwide using an ANZ-supported and tradeable currency. International payments often involve two currencies where a foreign currency exchange rate is required.

Payment Method Rules for International payments

Value date will default with the current or next business date if the payment is created on a non-business date or after payment cut-off
Non-business day - ANZ Transactive – Global will not allow you to create a payment where the Value Date is a non-business day (e.g., weekend, public holiday, bank holiday) or a currency holiday
Future value date can be selected up to 90 days
Cut-off time vary and are dependent on the currencies used.
Payment currency includes all ANZ-supported and tradeable currencies
Maximum payment value is 999,999,999,999.99
Maximum number of payment instructions is 5,000 for an itemised payment
Where (credit) payment currency is IDR, INR, MYR or ZAR, then Beneficiary Bank Country or Region must be ID (Indonesia), IN (India), MY (Malaysia) or ZA (South Africa) respectively.
When Beneficiary Bank Country is IN (India), ID (Indonesia), MY (Malaysia), or AE (UAE), the Purpose Code is mandatory.
Invalid Character rules apply to this payment type.
Individual Debits will apply to both International and International Salary payments

Who can create an International Payment?

Eligible users with Payment Management role permissions and account access can create and manage an International Payment based on your organisation's predetermined user permissions and payment settings. These role permissions can include:

Manage Payments - Adhoc (Adhoc & Approved Beneficiaries)
Manage Payments - Approved Beneficiary / Templates
Manage Payments - Import Payments
Manage Payments - FX Allowed

Who can create an International Salary Payment?

The International Salary payment option is only available to view and action if you have the following entitlements:
- Payroll - view full payment instructions
Fields within a salary payment will be masked and only visible to users with applicable entitlements. These fields include the beneficiary's name, beneficiary bank, account number, reference and payment amount, and will be represented by 'XXXX'. The beneficiary's name on the debit narrative will be replaced with 'Confidential'.

Cut-off time (near the value date) indicates the payment method cut-off time, based on the originating jurisdiction and payment currencies
The time zone and format (near the value date) are displayed as per your Settings & Preferences
The ANZ Transactive - Global mobile app will display the cut-off time in the payment time zone.

My Beneficiary ID is a unique beneficiary identifier. The field is enabled when you tick the 'Add this Beneficiary to your Beneficiaries when the payment is submitted' checkbox. The My Beneficiary ID is visible in the Beneficiaries screen.

Beneficiary Details grid - Masked salary payment

The following image is an example of the Beneficiary Details grid where fields within a salary payment are masked, including beneficiary name, account number, client reference and payment amount. These fields are represented by 'XXXX' and only visible to users with applicable entitlements. The beneficiary's name in the debit narrative will be replaced with 'Confidential'.
Users without applicable entitlements will receive a pop-up message, "You are not entitled to view instruction details."

Create an International Payment

There are multiple ways you can create an international payment from the Payments menu. Choose from the following options:

Click Create Payment > International Payment or International Salary Payment (see step-by-step instructions below)
Click Create Payment > Use Payment Template
Click Create Payment > Upload Payment File
Click Create Payment > Use Past Payment
Click Current Payments > New > International Payment or International Salary Payment (see step-by-step instructions below)

Click Payments > Create Payment menu or
Click Payments > Current Payments menu > New.

Click International Payment or International Salary Payment.

If required, select the Division the payment will be made from.
If you are entitled to more than one division, you can set a default division for future payments.

Select the Debit Account.

Value Date will default with the current or next business date.
If required, choose a future value date up to 90 days.

Enter a Payment Name up to 35 characters that will appear on payment reports.

Enter a Payment Reference up to 35 characters that will appear within the narrative on the funding account, beneficiary's statement and payment reports.

If required, enter Debit Advice Description up to:

140 characters where debit account is domiciled is CN or
55 characters where debit account is not domiciled in AU, CN or NZ.

Select the Payment Currency.
Refer to Processing & cut-off times for list of available payment currencies.

If required, tick Enter Amounts in Debit Currency if payment amount is in a different currency.

To reduce the risk of fraud, ANZ recommends you always confirm beneficiary details when processing a payment.

Search and select the Beneficiary from the Beneficiary Name field, then proceed to next steps. If required, click Add again to add additional beneficiaries.

Users must have entitlements to create new beneficiaries to complete these steps.

This field will be available when the debit account is domiciled in Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore or Vietnam and the Beneficiary bank is in either China, Macao, Hong Kong or Singapore.

If required, select Account Type:

Enter Beneficiary Name up to 35 characters.

Enter Full Legal Name (first name, any middle names, last name) or Registered Legal Entity Name of Beneficiary.

If required, enter Beneficiary Email Address up to 255 characters, separated by a comma, if sending a Beneficiary Advice. Multiple Email Addresses must be separated by a comma (,).

Please refer to General Payment FAQs for a sample Beneficiary Advice.

If adding Beneficiary to your Beneficiaries list, enter a unique My Beneficiary ID up to 35 characters.

Select Beneficiary Country or Region.

Enter Beneficiary Address up to 35 characters per line and City.

Click Save.

If required, click Add again to add additional beneficiaries.
Proceed to next steps.

If required, enter Client Reference up to 35 characters if different from the Payment Reference prepopulated.

Enter the Beneficiary payment Amount.

If required, click Beneficiary Payment Details icon to view or update additional beneficiary information:

The option to charge your beneficiary is not available in ANZ Transactive – Global. If you have elected to charge your beneficiary in a file import, the system will default the charges to SHA.

Select Charges

SHA - this means any fees charged by other banks (including our correspondent banks, any other intermediary banks and/or the recipient's bank) will be deducted from the payment before the proceeds are paid to the beneficiary.
OUR - 'OUR Charge' fee is charged by us. We will cover fees charged by our correspondent banks used in processing this payment. Other banks (including other intermediary banks and/or the recipient's bank) may charge an additional fee.

If the intermediary bank input field is not visible for your international payment instruction, please contact your ANZ Customer Service Centre for assistance with updating your organisation’s permissions.

Dynamic*

Obtain real-time foreign exchange rates for cross-currency payments. Once the payment is approved, it moves to a Needs Rate status. A user with appropriate user entitlements can then Get Rate to lock in the real-time dynamic rate.

A list of supported currencies for each jurisdiction is available in the Processing & cut-off times article.
Certain currencies require the use of a foreign exchange (FX) contract instead of a dynamic rate. For more information, refer to the Cross-Currency Payments section in the Processing & cut-off times article.

*A non-transactable daily mid-rate (which does not include a margin) has been used to estimate the transaction value for the purpose of approval discretions and available funds checking. The actual exchange rate for the transaction will be displayed when a trade or contract is applied to the payment request.

Contract

To obtain a FX Contract, contact your local ANZ Markets dealer. Contracts will appear in ANZ Transactive – Global for selection after they have been booked.
To utilise a FX contract in a payment, the contract needs to have the same value date as the payment.

Choose a prebooked foreign exchange rate:

3	Choose FX Contract ID to apply to the payment instruction
4	Click OK
5	Enter Utilised Amount for the full payment amount

Do you wish to continue the payment at a later stage?

Yes - Click Save as Draft, then click OK and Close Payment to exit out to the payment and return to the Current Payments screen. Payment will be in a Draft status.
No - Continue steps below

Click Review & Submit

Click Submit

RESULT: Payment has been submitted and pending approval.

Errors and Alerts

Error and alert messages such as 'fields validations' display information about the impacted field(s) and highlights the field(s) in red. Error messages are specific to the payment method types, fields available and particulars validations. You can update the information within the impacted field(s) and continue processing the payment.

When the payment has been successfully submitted and is now in a Pending Approval status, you can choose from the following on-screen options:

Request Payment Summary Report - Download in CSV, PDF and XLSX
Save Payment as Template - View in Templates menu. Use Payment Template.
Create Another Payment
View this Payment in a Pending Approval status
Click OK to close the payment and return to the Current Payments screen

When the payment has been successfully submitted for approval(s), the next steps can be:

Approve Payment for processing or,
Reject Payment back to the initiator for editing or deleting

When the international payment is in a Completed status, you can Generate an MT103 message for each individual beneficiary in the payment instruction.
